401K Profit Sharing Plan

401K Plan for Retirement

Our Story

In 1994 BenefitStreet began under the name American 401k Services. As a third party administrator in the pre-web era, the firm's workflow was paper-based, and contact with the clients and their employees occurred over the phone and in person. BenefitStreet saw the potential of the Internet, and in 1998 began to transfer the firm's accumulated benefits expertise to the web.

We have served businesses across the U.S. since 1994.

Today BenefitStreet operates as an Applications Service Provider, or ASP, delivering online benefit 401k and Section 125 Cafeteria Plans via the web to businesses across the United States.

Using the power of the Internet, BenefitStreet gives its clients' employees unlimited secure access to enroll online, make changes, view account statements, and receive reimbursement for qualifying expenses. Employee satisfaction and participation increases as BenefitStreet provides employees with real-time account information and activity updates.

Our Service

retirement planning - 401K PlansSome Internet firms will only interact with customers over the web, an approach that we believe is doomed from the start. At BenefitStreet we know that real people need fast answers to real questions. Most of the time plan participants can be served best over the web, but on certain occasions plan participants need to talk to a real live Benefits Specialist over the phone. That is why, in the midst of our firm's rapid growth, we have determinedly stepped up our effort to hire and train new Benefit Specialists who can help our clients and employees in ways that only another human can.

We combine the efficiency of the web with real human service.

At BenefitStreet we have figured out how to use high-tech to deliver affordable Fortune 500-quality benefit plans to businesses of any size - while maintaining the high standards for service we developed as a brick and mortar firm.

Anyone can build a web site. But a business model that combines the web with real human service is exceptionally hard to duplicate. We believe it is this powerful synthesis of high-tech and high-touch that has led to our exciting success to date, and will continue to fuel rapid growth in the years ahead

401k Plans

401k Plans have become nearly synonymous with a company retirement plan. They are a low-cost solution to providing a visible and appreciated retirement benefit to employees.

Convenient online benefits administration for you.High quality, full-featured benefits for your employees.

401k Plans offer employees a real opportunity to participate actively in saving for retirement on a pre-tax basis.

Proper administration is a critical element in the maintenance of an effective 401k plan. If non-discrimination tests are not satisfied, refunds may need to be made to highly compensated employees; worse yet, the plan may lose its qualified status. In order to keep your plan in compliance with the IRS, we offer quarterly compliance testing for all non-discrimination and participation tests.

  • ADP (Actual Deferral Percentage Test)
  • ACP (Actual Contribution Percentage Test)
While investing in a market that is very high or falling may not seem the best idea, having contributions payroll-deducted offers you an investment strategy. Dollar cost averaging is when you invest the same amount of money each month regardless of market conditions. This is exactly what you do when you contribute to a 401k. Instead of trying to time the highs and lows of the market, you are continually and systematically investing a specific dollar amount in one or more investments at regular intervals.

401k Plan Advantages

A 401k is a low-cost means of providing a visible and appreciated retirement benefit to employees. It offers employees a real opportunity to participate actively in saving for retirement on a pre-tax basis up to $11,000 (Plan year limit for 2002).

retirement planning - 401K PlansA qualified retirement plan is one of the best tax shelters available. The company is allowed a current deduction for its contributions to the plan; the employee pays no tax on money contributed and earnings from investments accumulate tax-free.

Non-tax reasons for adopting a qualified retirement plan:

  • Attracting employees
  • Employee retention
  • Increasing employee incentive
  • Accumulating funds for retirement
  • Protection from creditors
  • Access to funds through loan provision

Introduction To Asset Class Selection

Studies demonstrate that asset allocation among the broad global asset classes available is by far the major determinant of the risk -- and the rewards -- within your investment portfolio.

What do we mean by asset allocation? It means taking your investment "pie" and assigning appropriate slices to the major investment categories.

An asset class is a group of assets with similar risk characteristics. Asset classes can be as broad as fixed income/cash (or its equivalent, such as a bond, money market fund or Treasury bill) versus stocks.

retirement planning - 401K PlansAsset classes can also be more narrowly defined:

  • Bonds can be divided into short- and long-term.
  • Stocks can be divided into small companies vs. large companies and "value" companies vs. "growth" companies.
  • Stocks can be further divided into subcategories such as small value or large growth companies.
  • Adding the broad category of US versus international stocks provides even more ways to slice up your investment pie.

Asset Allocation of Investment Dollars

By implementing a systematic, global allocation of your investment dollars, you can actually reduce the risk within your overall portfolio while maximizing the returns you can expect to receive. This is also known as diversification.

Portfolio Description
Aggressive Growth/Highly Risk Tolerant (80/20) You have a lengthy time horizon to accommodate market cycles. Growth is very important and you are willing and able to accept the market risks generally required to accomplish growth over time.
Moderately Aggressive Growth / Generally Risk Tolerant (70/30) Growth is important and you are prepared for market volatility to achieve potential higher long-term returns.
Tend Toward Growth / Slightly Risk Tolerant (60/40) A balance between growth and security is important. You are willing to accept some risk to have the potential for higher returns over time, but your time horizon may be an issue.
Moderate Approach / Greater Need For Security (40/60) Your desire to protect your assets is a primary concern in your investment approach. You are willing to take some risk to achieve a growth component in your portfolio, but more moderate growth with less volatility is desirable.
Conservative / Highly Risk Averse (20/80) Protecting your assets is of greater concern to you than is the risk of your assets not growing in pace with inflation. You may be approaching retirement, or you may simply desire a high level of security or a decreased level of market volatility in your retirement portfolio.
Custom Portfolio (90/10) Build a custom portfolio if none of the above preconfigured portfolios meets your specific investment objectives and/or risk tolerances
